Culinary Visits

The City of Brotherly Love has become one of the finest food cities in the United States with an impressive breadth and depth of its offerings.

Join us this April as we delve into Philadelphia’s incredible culinary culture with nearly impossible to score restaurant repasts such as this year’s James Beard Awards “Outstanding Restaurant United States,” Zahav, from Michael Solomonov. Chef Solomonov will also be taking us on a personal, private tour of Center City, Philadelphia.

We will dine at Top Chef winner Nicholas Elmi’s Laurel and one of the city’s hottest new restaurants, River Twice from Chef Randy Rucker. Another highlight is a meal and more from a chef, who may be the best chef that you’ve never heard of (unless you’re in the food industry or have been on eGullet), the legendary Shola Olunloyo of the near mythical Studiokitchen.

Chef Olunloyo (known as ‘Shola’ in Philly) was born in England and raised in both West Africa and Europe. He has become one of the world’s experts on cooking technology, ingredients and techniques. In addition, he will welcome us into his Studiokitchen for a culinary demonstration.

This is a truly unique opportunity to spend time and learn from one of Philly’s most respected culinary artists. We are very excited to have this opportunity to bring guests into his studio kitchen for a personal experience.

Philadelphia Fun

In addition to fine dining, Philly is renowned for its more accessible multi-heritage dining options. We will explore much of the best of what this city has to offer including visits to Reading Terminal Market, South Philly Markets and, of course, a great Philly Cheese Steak (or two).

As always with Rascal + Thorn Culinary Tours, we will provide more than enough food, wine, booze and beverages that anyone could need, including three meals per day and specific accompanying alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages (any additional food or beverages not specifically provided as part of our itinerary are at the discretion and cost of the guest)

The holidays are upon us and it’s too late for shipping, but if you hurry, you can still purchase tickets for the grand return of the Rascal + Thorn Guest Chef Series, our first since the pandemic started. Featuring Michelin-starred chef Erik Anderson ( @airick72 ) currently at the 1Michelin star Barndiva in beautiful Healdsburg, CA in the heart of Sonoma wine country and NYC barman extraordinaire, Will Wyatt ( @willtwyatt ) of Mr. Paradise et al., these will take place at the impressively refurbished Hotel Saranac in Saranac Lake, NY to kick off the famously festive Saranac Lake Winter Carnival.

The second Saturday seating is nearly sold out and the other two seatings aren’t far behind. We have a limited number of discounted guest rooms available with purchase @hotelsaranac so you can make a special pre-valentine’s weekend in the heart of the Adirondacks!

The evening will open with canapés from Chef Alex Lempka ( @lempka_gram ) of Hamlet & Ghost in Saratoga Springs and a welcome beverage, followed by a 5 course dinner with a choice of alcohol-containing and alcohol free pairings.

The photo was taken 10 years ago at the legendary The Catbird Seat in Nashville, TN, where Chef Anderson was the opening chef along with Chef Josh Habiger.
