We believe in experiential travel. Whether it is the art of crafting the perfect dish, or the method of producing a special spirit, Rascal & Thorn provides the ultimate experience in gastronomic travel.
So very saddened to hear of the likely permanent closure of Grupo elBarri, the restaurant group from the great Albert Adria and Grupo Iglesias that included such unforgettable and wonderful restaurants as Tickets, Enigma, Hoja Santa, Bodega 1900 and Pakta, and were such an important part of our Legacy of elBulli Tour of 2018.
At this point, the elBarri Group itself will be no more, but it is not yet entirely clear as to the fates of the individual restaurants or the future direction of Albert Adria and his incredible team. We wish them well collectively and individually and look forward to future gastronomic and other encounters with them whether at these restaurants should they be resurrected, or elsewhere.
Wow, what a year we just finished. Good riddance, 2020! Phew. Let’s hope that 2021 provides us all good health, safety and that the world can heal and open up for gastronomic adventures again.
We are both itching to revisit our favorite spots and also create new itineraries. But to be able to plan for this, we need there to be more affirmation that the vaccine works and that the virus is diminishing. After having to cancel so many trips last year due to the pandemic, we hope to never have to face this gut-wrenching task again.
To put this behind us, our plan and hope is to return to Mexico and Japan this coming Fall, the last places we visited before the pandemic erupted almost a year ago. All of this will be announced when we feel like it is wise to "pencil" it in. We are also beginning to work on some custom, small group trips for 2022, so if that is something of interest to you, we can get started thinking about and planning it now.
A new idea that we are working on now is hosting virtual events such as spirits tastings, coffee, chocolate and other online experiences. Stay tuned for an announcement in the next week.
And lastly, we do hope to get back to doing our Guest Chef Dinners, perhaps, if things begin to improve, starting as early as this Summer.
We look forward to reconnecting with you all very soon!! Cheers, John + Charles … See MoreSee Less
A huge congratulations to our great friend and Mexico City collaborator, @sofcort who was just named “Latin America’s Best Pastry Chef” for 2020 by @theworlds50best . Her immense talent is only exceeded by her wonderful personality and charm.
Congratulations also to to her original mentor, the brilliant @enriqueolveraf , who recognized her talents early on and put her in a position to grow and excel!
We can’t wait to get back to Mexico to see you and to work with you both again!
