I have been leading whisky groups to Scotland since 2015. For me, it’s all about learning the nuances at each distillery that make the spirit so different from place to place. I have been to a lot of distilleries now in Scotland, just over 30 so far, but there has been one area that keeps eluding me.
In August of 2019, I will be leading a small group on a very special coastal whisky trek. This trip will focus on the outlying islands and distilleries located on the northern and western coasts. This is a very unique tour that encompasses a lot of ground, but some of the most beautiful areas in Scotland.
Starting in Inverness for one night, the group heads straight to the Orkney Islands for two nights. Here we will visit the Highland Park and Scapa distilleries. The group will then travel down the West Coast of Scotland with two nights on the island of Skye. The island of Skye is known for its beauty and it is here that we will explore the island’s nature and its great distillery Talisker. From there the group ferries to the island of Mull for one night and visits the Tobermory distillery.
The tour ends with one night in the fishing town of Oban and the last night in the town of Campbeltown. Here we visit Oban, Springbank and Glen Scotia distilleries.
This trip will take place in remote areas of Scotland where there will be moderate daytime hiking excursions and other historical visits. This will be an active trip, but one full of beauty, mystery and some great whisky!
This is a true dream trip for myself in Scotland, one that I have been thinking about for a long time. It should be a great tour. You should join me! More information can be found here: Coastal Whisky Tour of Scotland 2019
