Vibrant City & Food

If Mexico City is the heart of Mexico, Oaxaca is its soul. Join us this February as we partner with one of Mexico’s best English language guides, the aptly named Ruth Alegria. We will dive headlong into Oaxaca’s incredible traditional and fine dining foods, magical Mezcal, amazing arts and crafts and fascinating history.

We will eat the best food that the region has to offer, from humble but delicious market fare to its vibrant contemporary Mexican fine dining scene. We will tour the market with a local expert and later have a cooking class with what we have purchased. This will culminate in a festive dinner at our beautiful hotel, the centrally located Casa de las Bugambilias, which we will have to ourselves.

Mezcal

There is nothing quite like Mezcal produced anywhere else in the world. Made in the traditional way for hundreds of years, to sip on Mezcal is to drink in history. We will sample a wide variety of styles and producers, visit a working palenque and learn how to use Mezcal in making our own cocktails.

Art & Excursions

Oaxacan art is famous world-wide and with good reason. We will visit museums, artisans and famous, one-of-a-kind markets as we learn about the intricacies of the many collectible styles present here. We will visit some of the area’s most notable sites, archaeological and living, to give them context.

As always, once you join a Rascal + Thorn Tour, we provide three meals (sometimes more), local transportation once the tour starts, alcoholic and other beverages as indicated, lodging and excursions. Not included would be transportation to and from the tour, personal transportation needs that are not part of the tour itinerary and any food or beverages above what is supplied, should you for some reason desire more.
